History of LITA

LITA, which stands for Linguistics and Literature Association, was established on 17 June 2018 at Universitas Islam Negeri Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.

LITA was established in order to provide a forum for English language and literature departments in state Islamic universities under the auspices of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. In addition, LITA was established in order to both develop the networks and more importantly to develop English language and literature departments in Indonesia by conducting several activities, such as visiting professors, international conference, student conference, and seminars both offline and online. The President of LITA is Prof. Dr. Zuliati Rohmah, M.Pd., a lecturer at the English Department, UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya.

LITA has conducted several events, such as online seminar that was firstly hosted by UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, followed by UIN Alauddin Makassar, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah, and UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. The first LITA seminar was held in 7 July 2020 and themed Blended Learning: From Theory to Practice inviting Professor M. Arskal Salim (Director of Higher Education, MORA), Professor Zuliati Rohmah (UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya) and Ms. Raudhatul Jannah (UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya) as speakers. The second LITA seminar was held in 21 July 2020 and themed on Gender, Migration, and Diaspora in Women’s Literature of the Ummah with Hasnul Insani Djohar, PhD (UIN Syarif Hidayatullah) and Dr. Rosmah Tami (UIN Alauddin Makassar) as speakers. The third LITA seminar was held in 12 August 2020 ad themed on Gender, Racism, and Terrorism in Literature with Dr. Witriani (UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Yogyakarta) and Maria Ulfa, M.Hum (UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta) as speakers. The fourth LITA seminar was held in 7 September 2020 and themed on Islam in English Literature inviting Dr. Alaa Alghamdi (Taibah University, Saudi Arabia) and Dr. Isil Ozcan (Dokuz Eylul University, Turkey) as speakers.

LITA opens new member recruitment annually, in August. Lecturers especially who are teaching in English language and literature department under the auspices of Ministry of Religious Affairs (MORA) are invited to be member by completing the registration form bit.ly/LITAreg.
