Linguistics and Literature Association (LITA)

The English Department, UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya in Collaboration with the Linguistics and Literature Association has successfully held the first International Conference on Linguistics and Literature (INCOLL) 2021 themed "Global Muslim Literature and English Studies" on 21-22 July 2021. In his remarks, the conference chair, Associate Professor A. Dzo'ul Milal, said that the conference is intended to share knowledge, ideas, and experiences among experts, teachers, and practitioners in the field of language studies.

Inviting six (6) keynote speakers from five countries from three continents, the conference also invited six invited speakers from 6 leading universities in Indonesia.

The keynote speakers are:
1. Professor Claire Chambers, University of York, the UK
2. Professor Mahmudul Hasan, International Islamic University Malaysia
3. Professor Magda Hasabelnaby, Ain Shams University, Egypt
4. Professor Yazid Basthomi, State University of Malang, Indonesia
5. Professor Zuliati Rohmah, UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya
6. Dr. Azhar Ibrahim, National University of Singapore

The invited speakers are:
1. Dr. Hasnul Insani Djohar, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta
2. Dr. Moh. Arif Rokhman, Education and Culture Attaché in London
3. Dr. Witriani, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Jogjakarta
4. Professor Susilo, Mulawarman University
5. Professor Fatchul Mu'uin, Lambung Mangkurat University
6. Associate Professor Meinarni Susilowati, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang

In addition to the keynote session and plenary speakers, the conference was also enlivened by 39 papers which were presented in parallel sessions by speakers from various universities throughout Indonesia.

The event was officially opened by the Rector of UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, Professor Masdar Hilmy. In his remarks, the rector highly appreciated the holding of an international conference with the theme of literature and linguistics because this theme is still considered very relevant to the humanity conditions that have occurred throughout the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The conference which was held for two days was a success, marked by the enthusiasm of the participants from the first day to the second day, which reached no less than 300 participants.
