Linguistics and Literature Association (LITA)


On Tuesday, 26 January 2021, the English Department, UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya in collaboration with the Linguistics and Literature Association (LITA) started 2021 by holding the seventh online seminar series themed on “Integrating Moral Values in Linguistics and Literature.”

Presenting speakers from UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, Dr. A. Dzo'ul Milal, and UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, Dr. Galuh Nur Rahmah, the online seminar was officially opened by the President of LITA, Prof. Zuliati Rohmah. In her speech, Prof. Zuliati Rohmah mentions the importance of integrating moral values in learning. Amidst the industrial revolution 4.0 era, students not only need to be provided with knowledge alone but also with moral values and wisdom in using the knowledge they have acquired at university.

The second keynote speaker, Dr. A Dzo'ul Milal, elaborated how to integrate moral values, especially Islamic values, into the linguistic teaching and research. Not only about providing tips on integrating moral values ​​in linguistic teaching, Dr. Milal also provides examples of how linguistic studies are also related to moral values ​​in the holy book of the Koran. He quoted some of the verses in the Koran and explained how it can be presented to the students in the linguistics teaching and learning process.

After the presentation session of the speakers, the event moderated by Miss Kenia Alit Saptiti, continued to QnA session. The participants seemed very enthusiastic to explore further about the integration of moral values ​​in their teaching. One of the participants, Bu Istiadah from UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, recommended LITA be a driving force for the English departments to integrate moral values ​​in the teaching and learning of linguistics and literature in Indonesia.
